This gives many racers and teams the opportunity to run the one-off WKA national event without having to invest in tires they don’t normally run.
WKA has formalized the event’s class structure. Eight Pro money classes will run between Saturday and Sunday, July 20-21. Twenty-two traditional WKA “trophy “classes are also on the card.
The headline event is the big $5,000-To-Win Pro Animal division, which will run Sunday. The class will pay back 10 spots and boast many of the best dirt racers in the country battling for the top prize.
Charger Racing Chassis has stepped up to sponsor the Pro Animal division.
One of the most popular divisions will be the return of Pro Limited Modified to a WKA Dirt national. Pro Limited Modified will run for a cool $2,500 to win, made possible by sponsorship from Ultramax Racing Chassis. Pro Limited Modified rules are based off 2003 WKA rules, flathead only, .080 max bore and mufflers are not required. Pro Limited Modified will run Saturday.
Another class of great attention is the Shane Byers Memorial Pro Gold (Animal) division, sponsored by Platinum Racing Chassis. Pro Gold, named in honor of the late Shane Byers, a former WKA Gold-plate dirt racer from Johnsonville, S.C., will run Sunday and pay $1,000 to the winner.
In Pro Gold, a $500 bonus will be up for grabs to one or two drivers. The winner of Saturday’s Junior 3 Box Stock Lite and Junior 3 Box Stock Heavy will be eligible for a $500 bonus if he or she triumphs in Sunday’s Pro Gold main event.
Pro Clone will run Saturday for $1,000 to win. Pro Super Heavy is open to Animal and Clone engines and will pay $1,000 to the winner. Pro Super Heavy will run Sunday.
Pro Champ will run Sunday for $500 to win. Pro Junior 2 (blue Animal or flathead) and Pro Junior 1 (purple Animal) will run Saturday for $500 to win.
Click here to view a full list of the 30 classes that will run at the Briggs & Stratton Racing Dirt Summer Nationals.
The event entry form will be posted this week. WKA has begun receiving requests for reserved parking. Price is $40 per spot. Competitors may reserve via the entry form or call Keith Shampine at WKA at 704-455-1606.
Taking part in the third round of the World Karting Association (WKA) Manufacturers Cup program, three drivers will be housed under the new Team Koene USA tent as all three look to challenge at the front of the field.
Florida Winter Tour race winner and vice champion in the Vortex TaG Cadet division Michael d'Orlando will be back in action and will look to continue on his results from round two. After struggling slightly on Saturday in Kershaw, South Carolina, Michael rebounded Sunday to score a second place finish in Yamaha Junior Sportsman and stood atop the box in the Cadet division taking his first career WKA podium. Not only did Michael garner a pair of podiums during the last event, the young gun also claimed a pair of pole positions, his first at a national event.
Younger brother Nicholas will also be back behind the wheel and is excited about the upcoming round. Having a solid qualifying effort last year at the New Castle facility, Nicholas will do the same again in 2013 and give himself a chance to fight at the front of the field. Running Rotax Micro Max at the Florida Winter Tour, Nicholas will move to the Cadet and Yamaha Junior Sportsman classes for the WKA events.
"While we haven't been on track, we have had a lot going on in the past few weeks," expressed Team Koene USA's Mike Maurini. "We have received our new team tent, added to the interior of our sprinter van, purchased and switched team drivers to the Tony Kart brand as well as added another driver to the stable for future events."
Joining Team Koene USA for all remaining WKA Manufacturers Cup events, Canadian pilot Roman Deangelis will contest in the Sportsman divisions. Along with the d'Orlandos, Roman will make the switch to the Tony Kart brand and contest in his first career WKA event. Competing at the 2013 Florida Winter Tour and with plans to compete north of the border in Canada throughout the season, Deangelis will run under the Koene USA tent for the rest of the WKA program under the watchful eye of Martijn Koene. Looking to improve on his results and race craft, Deangelis will look to get up to speed early and challenge for podium results.
"We are happy to have Roman in the Koene USA program," explained Martijn Koene. "He is a good driver and we feel that he will benefit from the coaching that we offer as well as the information that we can provide from other drivers under the tent. It is going to be a good fit."
With the official event practice set to get underway on Friday, May 17th, wheel-to-wheel action will commence on Saturday and Sunday with two separate event days. With all three drivers competing in two classes per day, Team Koene USA looks to add to their 2013 podium and win total while at home in Indiana.
Koene USA will also continue to provide their trackside support and sales program at the New Castle Motorsports Park. Competitors looking for OTK, Tony Kart, Bridgestone, Mojo, Rotax and Alpinestars products can stop by the www.KoeneUSA.com sprinter van to get their supplies. Items pre ordered by Thursday, May 8th will receive delivery trackside at New Castle at no charge.
For more information on Koene USA and their online store, please visit www.KoeneUSA.com or contact company representatives at 317.270.8723 or via e-mail to Info@KoeneUSA.com.
For information on press releases or other media services offered by Race Tech Development, please contact Mike Maurini via e-mail at Info@RaceTechDevelopment.com or 317.270.8723.
CONCORD, N.C. – This summer will mark a new era for WKA’s Speedway Pavement program with two big events at Chapel Hill Raceway in New York, the first a July 13-14 event and the Grand Nationals August 9-11.

The July show will be a two-day event (Saturday and Sunday) while the Grand Nationals will take place over three days (Friday through Sunday).

In July, practice will run the first half of Saturday before racing begins. Tentative plans will have racing to go into the night Saturday with racing under the lights. Sunday’s program will offer a morning practice before getting into racing earlier in the day so teams and families can head home at a respectable hour.

The Grand Nationals will open Friday, Aug. 9 for practice with a handful of local classes racing under the lights Friday night. Saturday and Sunday will include traditional WKA national classes mixed with a number of local classes that run at area dirt tracks. Tentative plans will have racing go into the evening Saturday with more racing under the lights.
Here is a rundown of the program and classes that will be offered at the events.
On the champ-kart side, little has changed from past years. Lite and Heavy classes will be offered for Junior 1, Junior 2, Junior 3 and Senior Champ. These divisions will run Briggs & Stratton Animal engine only. Standard WKA champ-kart rules will apply. A tire rule will be announced soon.
A Pro Senior Champ money class will be offered. Pro Senior Champ will pay back five spots and drivers must enter at least one of the two Senior Champ trophy classes in order to run the Pro Senior Champ money race.
On the flat-kart side, a number of classes have been added in an attempt to attract racers from area dirt tracks. New Chapel Hill owner Ronnie Flaim has spent countless hours researching and networking with area dirt racers and teams and has a list of classes that will be run on the pavement with hopes a number of dirt racers will try their hand at the Chapel Hill asphalt oval.
These classes are Novice, Youth 1, Youth 2, LO206, Extreme Stock, Super Stock, Youth Clone, Clone 350 and Clone 450.
Rules for these divisions are based on what the area dirt tracks run for rules. CLICK HERE to view rules for the local classes.
The current class structure leaves room for WKA to add a handful of flat-kart divisions to the schedule. Officials are still working to develop a complete class structure.
An entry form for these events will be posted in May.
Direct questions to WKA’s Keith Shampine at 704-455-1606 or Chapel Hill owner Ronnie Flaim at 716-474-5221.
In addition to awards, every Briggs trophy class will award one racer a case of Briggs & Stratton 4T Synthetic Racing Oil, valued at $200 retail.
A case of oil will be awarded to the winner in certain trophy classes, while other classes will award a case through special promotions, such as the Pole winner or Hard Charger (driver to advance the most positions in the main event).
Further announcements on the Briggs & Stratton Racing Dirt Summer Nationals will be released in the coming weeks and months.
The entry form will be available in early May.
WKA has released a class structure. Competing with the Energy Corse squad, Thompson would again impress running very quick throughout the week and closing the weekend with a solid fourth place result.
"I was very happy with the progress that we made this past weekend," explained Thompson. "We were able to turn quick times early in the week, make the Super Pole qualifying session as well as lead a few laps in the heats. It was a testament to how far we have come as a program and how I have developed as a driver."
Starting the week with test sessions, Thompson proved to be very quick in dry conditions. Topping the charts in several sessions, Parker started his week of competition off strong. With times getting closer as more practice sessions were in the books, Thompson was pleased with his pace and looked forward to qualifications.
Thompson continued, "Sarno is a difficult track and I did not get the opportunity to test here before the event. Several teams and drivers have run here in the past and tested within the past month so I felt that we were well on top of our game despite our lack of testing."
Qualifying would see a milestone for the young Canadian as he managed to make it into his first career Super Pole session. With two separate groups posting times, the top six from each session would be put into the Super Pole group and battle for the top spot and ultimate front row starting position for each heat race.
"I was really excited to be in the Super Pole group but disappointed with my end result," added the Energy Kart driver. "We did not know until after we had started the run at pole that we had suffered a major engine problem that would cause me to be 1000 RPM below the norm and a major loss in horsepower. With all the issues, I would end up in the 12th position."
Qualifying 12th, Thompson would start all four of his heat races from the third row and would look to be consistent to ensure a good starting position for the prefinal. Showing the pace to run at the front of the field, Thompson would lead laps in two different heat races but would settle for a third, fifth, second and third in his heats. Never running outside the top-five, the Rotax Max Challenge Grand Finals podium finisher would start the KFJ prefinal from inside row two in the third position.
Moving forward early in the prefinal, Thompson would take the lead on the third circuit and hold it for three laps before being aggressively overtaken by a fellow competitor. With contact being made, Thompson would fall back to the sixth position and eventually would end the race fifth.
Determined to redeem himself in the final, Thompson was a man on a mission. After starting in the tenth position, the hot shoe quickly made his way to the fourth position on the opening lap and advanced to third on the second circuit. Looking to position himself for a shot at the victory, Thompson attempted to move to the second position before contact from behind sent him into the driver he was trying to pass, forcing him to fall outside the top-ten.
Refocusing his efforts and looking to make a march back forward, Thompson would turn some of the quickest laps of the event as he maneuvered his way back forward to the fourth position before the checkered flag would fly.
"This race was without a doubt Parker's best race in Europe with us," explained Energy Corse's Mick Panigada. "His tuning of the carburetor during the races was quite good, a big improvement from the past. His qualifying on the new tires was good, usually we struggle with the new tires but Parker is learning how to treat them, and we made Super Pole (top-12) a big improvement on his part. The program I have put him on, training for four hours every day he is not driving, dieting, working at the factory, and in a trusted family environment with my family is a winning combination."
"The WSK Masters Sarno was definitely Parker's best race," expressed Luigina Guerrini, Technical Supervisor for the Italian-based team. "He made vast improvements to all aspects of his racing. His race craft in the final was very good, the best I've seen out of Parker since his arrival to Europe."

Parker would like to thank his current supporters and partners: Energy Corse Factory, GFR Engines, TM Racing, Tillotson Carbs, Racing Against Cancer, Panigada Transport, Tillett Racing Seats, RLV, Douglas Wheels, Newline Racing Products, Bell Racing Helmets, Sparco, CanadianKartingNews.com and Sylvan Lake RV.
For more information on Parker Thompson including partnership opportunities, please visit him online at www.ParkerThompsonRacing.com or Parker Thompson Racing on Facebook and Twitter @parkertracing.
For information on press releases or other media services offered by Race Tech Development, please contact Mike Maurini via e-mail at Info@RaceTechDevelopment.com
or 317.270.8723. Taking to the Carolina Motorsports Park (CMP) facility in Kershaw, South Carolina for round two, Gangi Jr. would contest three classes during an action packed weekend. Riding high from his stellar FWT campaign and entering with two WKA victories from round one in Daytona in December, Gangi Jr. would look to continue to put his GT7 Motorsports/Tony Kart on top.
With cold, rainy weather clearing out for comfortable temperatures and sunny skies for the weekend racing, Gangi Jr. would take to the track Saturday in Komet Sportsman for the first of his three classes. Clocking fifth quick in the qualifying session, the young gun would maintain his position in the eight lap prefinal. Posting the fastest race lap, Gangi Jr. showed he had the speed to compete. Moving up to third in the final, the Brookville, New York resident claimed his first podium finish of the weekend.
Up next for Gangi Jr. was the racy Cadet Sportsman class. Just missing out on the pole position by 0.118 seconds, Gangi Jr. would maintain his off-pole starting place after the prefinal race concluded. Again earning fast lap honors, the WKA Daytona double race winner would earn yet another podium result after coming home fourth in the main event.
Gangi Jr. would then wrap up his Saturday with the Yamaha Sportsman division. Taking third overall in the qualifying session, Gangi Jr. would end up starting the prefinal from the tail of the grid after being a half pound light at the scales. Showing his determination and his fast race pace, he was the fastest kart on the track in the prefinal as he recovered to finish in the top-five. Gangi Jr. was then able to claim his third podium of the day after his fourth place finish in the final.
Back on track Sunday, Gangi Jr. would add his third victory to his 2013 WKA Man Cup tally. A slow start in the Komet Sportsman class saw the rising star back in seventh after qualifying. Progressing to fourth in the prefinal, Gangi Jr. was then able to top the blocks in the division during the afternoon podium presentations.
In Sunday Cadet Sportsman action, Gangi Jr. started off placing fourth in the morning qualifications and then moved up to third in the prefinal. An ultra-competitive and exciting final race then ensued, as last lap aggressive driving by Gangi and the frontrunners eventually relegated Gangi Jr. down to the eighth place.
Closing out his Kershaw campaign, Gangi Jr. would only clock 11th quick in the Yamaha Sportsman division for Sunday’s action. Making quick work of his competition in the prefinal, Gangi Jr. was able to advance up to fourth and then maintained his position in the final to earn yet another podium result.
Anthony would like to thank his tuner and driver coach Chris Perez, Mike Doty of Mike Doty Racing and Daniel Woltjer, as well as his karting sponsors Millwork Solutions Inc., Holeshot Drive Systems and PKT Axles.
Anthony Gangi Jr. will now enjoy a few weekends off as he next takes on the new United States Pro Kart Series, which kicks off April 26-28 at the Mooresville Motorplex in Mooresville, North Carolina. When you can come away with three of six, it means a lot. The competition is very hard and there are many drivers like Zach (Holden), Anthony (Gangi Jr.) Michael (d'Orlando), Brandon (Lemke), Neil (Verhagen) and others who are hard to beat.
"I also want to thank everyone who helped. Jason Birdsell, my dad, Wes, Jason's dad (Mike Birdsell), MRP Birel and HMD Trucking."
With Kershaw in the books, Malukas is making a strong case for the being the hottest Junior Sportsman racer in the country. He opened the 2013 WKA Man Cup season with two dominating feature wins at Daytona KartWeek at the DIS Sprint Track. After an up-and-down Florida Winter Tour campaign, Malukas closed the series with his first-ever Rotax win last month at Ocala Gran Prix. His three wins at Kershaw give him six final victories with over half the season remaining.
"We are running well right now," the humble 11-year-old said. "I hope we can keep it going; I think we can. Jason and Wes are the best in the business and the Birel is really flying! I'm having a great time right now and looking forward to the rest of the year!"
The David Malukas Racing team now has a couple weekends off before heading back to the Carolinas for the opening round of the new United States Pro Kart Series April 26-28 at North Carolina's Mooresville Motorplex. The team wasn't sure if they would attend the event, but after their recent success, as of this week they plan to attend.
The remainder of the year will see Malukas run the entire Route 66 Sprint Series in order to earn the maximum number of WKA Manufacturers Cup bonus points, select WKA Great Lakes Sprint Series, USPKS and Rotax events and of course, the remaining four WKA Man Cup shows.
The team's prime goal is a 2013 WKA Triple Crown championship, and with two Man Cups in the books, David is at or near the top of the standings in each of the four Sportsman Man Cup divisions (Cadet, Yamaha, Komet 1 and Komet 2).

David Malukas is an 11-year-old national sprint go-kart racer from Chicago, Illinois. Malukas is a multi-time feature winner and top-five finisher in Junior Sportsman divisions in national World Karting Association Manufacturers Cup competition, a multi-time feature winner in WKA Great Lakes and Route 66 sprint regional series and now a feature winner in Florida Winter Tour Rotax racing.
For more information on David, visit DavidMalukas.com.
Malukas rides No. 79 MRP Motorsport Birels and is proud to be sponsored by HMD Trucking.

Closing out the annual Formula Kart Productions Florida Winter Tour (FWT) in late March, Michael d'Orlando would trade in his Vortex Mini Rok and Rotax engines in for Comer and Yamaha power plants and shift his focus to the World Karting Association (WKA) Manufacturers Cup program. With the first event already under wraps, d'Orlando and his Team Koene USA squad would head to Carolina Motorsports Park in Kershaw, South Carolina for round two of the series.
With cold and rainy conditions presenting themselves on Thursday's prep day, teams would finally hit the track Friday morning. High winds and temperatures below average would be the norm for the day, as drivers would look to get up to speed in their respective classes.
With two separate event days over the weekend, Michael d'Orlando would see action in both Cadet Junior Sportsman and Yamaha Junior Sportsman on Saturday and Sunday. With field sizes hovering around twenty drivers, attendance would be lower than normal but the top drivers of the series would see action.
Saturday would prove to be a difficult one for d'Orlando as he and the team would work on race craft and positioning throughout the day. Joining Team Koene USA only a few months ago, this would be the duo's first attempt at the WKA program together and speed and results greatly improved throughout the weekend.
After qualifying fifth in Saturday's Cadet Junior Sportsman class, Michael would fall to seventh in the prefinal before battling back to finish sixth in the day's main event. Similar results would present themselves in the Yamaha Junior Sportsman category as a tenth place qualifying effort would turn into an eighth place result by the time the final checkered flag would fly.
"On Saturday I learned a lot," explained Michael d'Orlando after the weekend was over. "I worked with my tuner and coach and he would teach me a lot about positioning throughout the race as well as challenge me to get up to speed early in the sessions."
Sunday would prove to be much better for the Hartsdale, New York resident as he started the day off right in both divisions. Having never scored a pole position in WKA competition, Michael went from zero to two in one day as he scored the fastest lap in both morning qualifying sessions.
Falling back slightly in the prefinals but never running outside the top five, Michael would battle a little bit of an ill handling kart but manage to salvage a fourth place effort in the Cadet class and a third place run in Yamaha. Working with Koene USA to get everything set up for the day's final, Michael would improve in both classes.
In what could be classified as one of the most exciting Cadet Junior Sportsman races of the season, eight karts would line up nose to tail and look to position themselves for a shot at the win. With multiple drivers leading at one point, the last lap would see Michael advance from fifth to second after contact was made by several drivers. Crossing the line in P2, Michael was elevated to the top step of the podium after a penalty by the officials for last lap contact would be assessed to the on track winner. Scoring his first WKA pole position and first WKA victory in the same day, d'Orlando would celebrate later that day on the podium.
The Yamaha Junior Sportsman final would see three karts break away from the field and fight it out for the victory. With all three taking turns leading at some point throughout the 14-lap final, d'Orlando would cross the stripe in the second position adding his second podium result of the weekend.
Michael d'Orlando and DRC Inc., would like to give a special thanks to Mike Maurini and Martijn Koene of Team Koene USA, DRC's Adam Johnson as well as Austin Miles for his assistance during this past weekend.
For more information on Michael or Nicholas d'Orlando, along with partnership opportunities, please visit www.dorlandoracing.com. Grand Products will award Sunday’s Sportsman Pro Gas Animal feature winner one set of Bridgestone tires at every Gold Cup national in 2014.

There is only one stipulation for these awards.

In order to be eligible for WKA’s entry fee award and Grand Products’ set of tires award, the winner must have entered at least one national points class in four of the five Gold Cup nationals in this season.

This means if a racer didn’t attend Jacksonville, he or she would have to attend the remaining four 2012 Gold Cup events to be eligible. If a racer did run Jacksonville, he or she may miss South Bend, Camden or Pittsburgh and still be eligible for the award at Rockingham.

This stipulation is not limited to entrants in Sportsman Pro Gas Animal. A racer must have entered any one national points class at four of the five 2012 Gold Cup rounds (Pro Gas, Clone or methanol Animal).

“We’re very proud of the Sportsman Pro Gas attendance at Jacksonville,” WKA’s Keith Shampine stated. “We think this is a nice season-ending incentive for our Sportsman racers and teams who will follow all or most of the Gold Cup tour this year. I also want to stress that this is just the beginning of a number of big announcements for the Gold Cup, and specifically Rockingham. No age category will be left out. Every racer in attendance at Rockingham will have a shot, and likely multiple shots, at some terrific awards and incentives this October 4-6.”

Pre-registration is now open for the Michigan Kart Supply Nationals, round two of the Gold Cup this May 24-26 at JET Karting, formerly Michiana Raceway Park.

Click here to view and print the JET Gold Cup pre-entry form.

Continue to watch WKA’s Pit Board and WorldKarting.com posts for further announcements on the 2013 Gold Cup Series. Junior Sportsman racers will now have six classes from which to choose with a division each day for Yamaha, Komet and Cadet.
Birel racer David Malukas, GT7 Motorsports Tony Kart shoe Anthony Gangi Jr., fresh off a Florida Winter Tour TaG Cadet championship, Top Kart’s Zach Holden and Franklin Motorsports Merlin pilot Brandon Lemke are among the favorites heading into Kershaw. Malukas and Gangi each won two Sportsman finals at the Daytona Margay Sprint Championships season opener in December while Lemke was victorious in Yamaha Sportsman 1.
Some of the most cutthroat action will come in the 12- to 15-year-old Junior category, which offers a Yamaha and Komet division each day. Top Kart pilot Ryan Raffa and Haase racers Austin McCusker and Brandon Jarsocrak will lead the way in the Junior. McCusker swept the Komet Junior mains at the Daytona while Raffa and Jarsocrak split the Yamaha Junior finals.
Senior competition offers a wide range of classes including Yamaha, Komet and four TaG divisions.
An interesting battle to watch throughout 2013 is the Komet PRO class, which will award the champion $2,000 and a new KPV engine kit. Nick Neri (Tony Kart) and Patrick Olsen (Top Kart) split the classes in Daytona with Jonathan Kotyk (Tony Kart) coming home third both days. Neri isn’t expected to be in attendance at Kershaw, which could open it up to Olsen and Kotyk. Joel Jens, if he runs the class and Darin Marcus are other drivers to keep an eye on.
Olsen and Dakota Pesek (Arrow) each won a Yamaha Senior main at Daytona with the new SR-Y pipe. Olsen, Pesek and a host of others are expected to vie for the top prizes at the CMP Sprint Track.
The TaG Senior and Parilla Senior classes appear to be wide open. Jamie McMurray, Mason Chelootz, Nick Neri and Mike Giessen all scored wins at Daytona. McMurray will be racing NASCAR Sprint Cup at Martinsville, while Neri hasn’t attended Kershaw in recent seasons. Giessen and Chelootz are both pre-entered, and don’t count out Daytona top finishers Mark Boos, Jacob Donald, Jacob Knueven and Tommy Andersen, who are all pre-entered for round two.
Brian McHattie swept TaG Masters at Daytona but is not pre-entered for Kershaw. If McHattie doesn’t show 2012 TaG Masters national champ Scott Ferris would be considered the favorite.
And the youngsters in Yamaha Rookie Sportsman are primed to put on another good show in the Palmetto State. Over 20 drivers have pre-entered for the class, which continues to grow in its third season on the WKA Man Cup circuit. Florida’s Jeremy Fairbairn won both Rookie mains at Daytona, triumphing over Mark J. Finies and Dino Lambros. Other racers to watch in this class are Tyler Ferris, Carter Cass, Parker Abed, Brian Tremper Jr. and Gage Rodgers, who all scored top-five results at the World Center of Racing in December.
Pre-registration is closed for next weekend’s event. Competitors will be able to enter at the track beginning Thursday afternoon. Pit pass sales open at 8 a.m. Thursday and sponsors will begin parking at 9.
Many competitors are already in South Carolina practicing for the Zoom Zoom Nationals. Sunday is the last day drivers are allowed on track. No testing is allowed Monday through Thursday per WKA rules.
Click here for the Zoom Zoom Nationals entry form.

Sportsman Pro Gas Animal 10-lap Shootout and Junior Pro Gas Animal 10-lap Shootout will run off shortly following the conclusion of practice. The top-five finishers in each race will receive trophies and all participants will receive gift certificates redeemable at on-site part vendors.
But that’s not all.
Briggs & Stratton Racing has posted a brand-new stock Animal engine to the winner of each race. The new engine will be on-site, available for pickup at the racetrack.
Friday evening’s action will conclude with the best Gold Cup Money Race in its five-year history.
A cool $2,500 has been added to the purse for entrants running the Pro Gas Animal engine and WKA has developed a unique formula on payout.
For Pro Gas Senior Money Race entrants, the top-10 payout will be as follows.
• 1st – New Briggs Animal engine
• 2nd - $100
• 3rd - $200
• 4th - $300
• 5th - $400
• 6th - $500
• 7th - $400
• 8th - $300
• 9th - $200
• 10th - $100
• Fast lap time of race – complete Pro Gas exhaust system

The out-of-the-box payout structure is designed to award each of the top-10 Pro Gas finishers, whether it’s a new engine, $500 or $100.
A certain amount of strategy surely will come into play for many racers. With the top prize winning the new Animal, racers with an inside shot at the win will be gunning for the new Animal, however, racers aware their kart may not be capable or fast enough to run up front may look to hang around the fourth- through seventh-place range, where the payout is greatest.
If nothing else, the Money Race will be one of the most interesting events to watch in quite some time at a Gold Cup, and officials believe the format will add a great amount of excitement for racers, fans and team members.
Teams with the traditional methanol Animal-powered engines are encouraged to run this race. While the $2,500 goes to Pro Gas entrants, every entry will count toward the 75 percent purse payback. With the methanol engines quicker than Pro Gas, these drivers will have the advantage on winning the largest cuts of the 75 percent.
JET Karting Gold Cup Senior Money Race guidelines are as follows:
• Age 15 and up
• Methanol and Pro Gas engines allowed
• Minimum weight (methanol and Pro Gas): 360 pounds
• 75% payback based on ALL entries
• $2,500 ADDITIONAL PURSE for Pro Gas engine karts ONLY
• Examples: First Pro Gas engine across line wins Briggs Animal engine, second Pro Gas engine across line gets 2nd-place money, etc. If methanol engine wins, he/she gets best cut of 75 percent payback. If methanol engine finishes fifth overall, he/she gets fifth-place cut of 75 percent payback.
• Regular post-race technical inspection applies
• Must enter a Saturday or Sunday points class in addition to Money Race. Cannot run Money Race and go home.

Pre-registration is now open for the Michigan Kart Supply Nationals. Click here to view and print the entry form.

The year prior, a handful of 2-cycle classes was added to the series as local options.
This year the only karts circling the track at a Gold Cup national will be powered by Briggs Animal, LO206 or Clone powerplants, as was the case at Jacksonville.
The other key difference from last year was that Clones weren’t the only gas-powered 4-cycle engines on the track. Three new gas-powered Animal divisions made their debut, titled Pro Gas Animal for Senior, Junior and Sportsman racers.
The Pro Gas divisions featured very respectable entry counts for their debutant show. Ten racers entered a very competitive Senior Pro Gas Animal division each day, while Sportsman Pro Gas Animal was the largest class of the weekend with 12 entrants on Saturday and 13 racers on Sunday. The weekend kicked off with a special Sportsman Pro Gas Animal 10-lap shootout race, which saw a dozen youngsters take the green flag.
Clones made up a good portion of the entry count at Jacksonville. Senior Clone started 13 karts Saturday and 11 Sunday. The racing was close and exciting as the underpowered Clone engine kept most of the top-10 contestants close and competitive throughout each day’s program.
Methanol-powered Animal classes continued as the backbone of the Gold Cup Series at Jacksonville. The four Junior divisions provided exciting racing and stiff competitions, while Animal Lite, Medium and Heavy, as well as Friday night’s Money Race, offered fans some fast-paced action and wheel-to-wheel action.
Here’s a rundown of the racing at the Jacksonville’s Coyote Motorsports Gold Cup Nationals.

Friday Money Race / Sportsman Shootout
Twelve drivers officially opened the 2013 Gold Cup racing season in a special 10-lap Sportsman Pro Gas Shootout event, which awarded trophies to the top-five finishers and gift certificates to various kart shops.
Bandit racer Jason Alder scored the first win of the new season with a close victory over Georgia’s Dylan Murry. David Kalb Jr. finished third on his brand-new Margay chassis. Zach Wells was fourth on his MGM and Cameron Clifford rounded out the top five.

SUNDAY JUNIOR MEDIUM COMPETITION
Tyler Sandmeyer continued to prove he’s a wheelman at Jacksonville with his win in the Animal Heavy Money Race. Sandmeyer, on his familiar No. 1 MGM, bested MGM teammate Zachary Linsell for the score. Florida’s Rob Hindery was third on his Razor, Josh Stiefel fourth on a Coyote and Dylan Zobkiw rounded out the top five on his Coyote.

LO206 Kid Kart
Three kid kart teams made the trip to Jacksonville. Tanner Carter won both days, but had some stiff competition in both main events. Dalton Smith and Riley Smith were both on Carter’s back bumper in Saturday’s feature. Both drivers looked to have a shot at the top position before Riley spun out last in the race in turn seven. Carter held the lead over the final laps to take a 0.130-second victory over Dalton Smith.
On Sunday you could have thrown a blanket over the top-three racers. Again, Tanner was able to fend off challenges from the two Smiths. This time Riley held on for second, finishing only 0.180 seconds back of Carter, while Dalton crossed the stripe third, less than a half-second back of the winner.

Sportsman 1
Pennsylvania racer Jason Alder backed up his Friday Sportsman Pro Gas Shootout win by bolting on the methanol-powered Animal and scoring the win in Saturday’s Performance North Sportsman 1 Lite main. Alder wheeled his Bandit to his second win of the weekend – but first win in national points classes – over New York Coyote racer Nick Fauci. Maryland’s Matthew Miller was third, about one second back of the winner, while Camden Gruber and Evan Bovee filled the top-five slots in the seven-kart field.
Fauci had been close all weekend and finally broke into the winners’ column in the weekend’s second-to-last race, Sportsman 1 Heavy. Fauci battled hard with Miller and Alder throughout the 10-lapper, and made a slick last-lap pass on Alder to earn the victory. Alder was unable to win his third race of the weekend and had to settle for third. Riley Kelley was fourth and Gruber fifth.
Only two Sportsman 1 Clone racers were in attendance. The participants were Nick Torres and Cale Hall. Torres won both days over Hall. He had a fairly easy time of it Saturday, finishing over 10 seconds in front. On Sunday, Hall was able to keep pace with Torres but ended up falling a little over a second short of the winner. Both drivers were on Razor chassis.

Sportsman 2 / Sportsman Pro Gas
Adam Cornell swept the Sportsman 2 Animal divisions. Cornell secured his first win of the weekend in Saturday’s Van-K Wheels Sportsman 2 Lite, which saw him make a last-lap pass on MGM pilot Zach Wells. Joshua Stark was third on his Coyote, Cameron Clifford fourth and David Kalb Jr. fifth.
Cornell made it a clean sweep in Sunday’s Sportsman 2 Heavy program. The Pennsylvanian scored the Pole Award, won the heat and the 10-lap main event. Stark was second, Kalb third, Clifford fourth and Wells rounded out the top five.

SENIOR PRO GAS ANIMAL START
Dylan Murry and Zach Wells split the Sportsman 2 Clone mains. Murry made a sweet last-lap pass on Wells to win Saturday’s feature. Wells returned the favor Sunday and fended off Murry in another tight race. Cody Hall was third in both races.
Matthew Miller earned a big win Saturday in Baker Racing Engines Sportsman Pro Gas Animal 1. Miller timed fastest on his Bandit chassis and backed up his Pole Award with a 0.123-second win over Dylan Murry. Nick Fauci was third, Alex Vrabel fourth and Cody Hall fifth in the 12-kart field.
Sunday’s Baker Racing Engines Sportsman Pro Gas Animal 2 main saw Cody Hall and Murry race nose-to-tail throughout the 12-lapper. The pair, both on Razor chassis, pulled away from the rest of the field to settle the race on their own. Murry took a number of shots at Hall on the final lap but Hall was able to hold on for the big win – his first and only triumph of the weekend.
Miller crossed the stripe third, well ahead of fourth-place Fauci. Alder rounded out the top five in the competitive 13-kart field.

Junior
Razor pilot Tanner Lee was the top winner on the weekend. Lee scored wins in five of the eight Junior classes offered, including a sweep of Junior Clone, Junior Pro Gas Animal and a big win in Junior Heavy.
Lee became the first-ever winner of Junior Pro Gas, sponsored by Razor Chassis / Roberts Kart Shop and Margay Racing Chassis, and now has the hole shot on the brand-new chassis that will be awarded to the winner of the division’s points champion. Lee bested Michigan’s Tyler Woods and Joey Pendergrass in both days’ Junior Pro Gas mains.
The Lee team strapped on the Clone and proceeded to best Davis Packard in Junior Clone 1 and Junior Clone 2. Five karts started each main event. In Junior Clone 1, Evan Cowen was third, Chris Newman fourth and Rafael Leon fifth. In Sunday’s Junior Clone 2 weekend capper, Lee led the way over Packard, Newman, Leon and Cowen.
Lee scored the MGM Chassis Co. Junior Heavy victory by a 2.5-second gap over defending Restricted Junior national champion Sarah Luoma. Georgia’s Connor Tebbe was third on his sleek black and green Razor. Jason Yarbrough was fourth and Tyler Steifel fifth, both on Coyotes.
Florida racer Jason Yarborough won two of the three races he started at Jacksonville. Racing a pristine No. 24 Coyote, Yarborough banked wins in Junior Lite and Junior Medium, the most competitive of all the Junior mains.
Yarborough’s win in Junior Lite came by a tight 0.274-second gap over fellow Coyote pilot Luoma. Tebbe was right there in third, only 0.546 seconds back of the winner. Tyler Stiefel finished fourth and Haley Kummer fifth.

SENIOR CLONE COMPETITION WAS STOUT AGAIN AT 103RD STREET
Yarborough won a tight race in Junior Medium to finish off the weekend. He finished just ahead of Lee, who was denied of a sixth win on the weekend. Austin Yarbrough (no relation) was third, Tyler Stiefel fourth and Tebbe fifth.
Austin Yarbrough made for an interesting story. The Georgia racer is a top Southeast dirt wheelman who was looking to get some experience on a paved road course. An ad on Facebook led his Austin Yarbrough Racing team to contact D.J. Keener of Bandit Karts. The two struck a deal, and Keener put a Bandit together for Yarbrough to race on Sunday at Jacksonville.
Yarbrough couldn’t race the Coyote Nationals on Saturday because he was busy competing in round two of the Tri-State Pro Series at Thunder Valley Motorplex in Neeses, S.C., arguably the most competitive dirt karting series in the country.
Yarbrough nearly won a couple races at Neeses Saturday night, but he broke through Sunday by scoring the big win in Restricted Junior over Tyler Stiefel. Tyler Woods was third and Haley Kummer fourth.
Great to see a dirt racer try his hand at asphalt sprint racing… once a common occurrence but a rarity this day in age.

Senior
The traditional senior methanol Animal features saw five different winners.
Michigan’s Scott Kleman and Pennsylvania’s Zachary Linsell were the class of the field in Coyote Motorsports Animal Lite. Kleman had a little bit more than Linsell in the main, racing his Coyote to the win by a couple kart-lengths over Linsell’s MGM. Home-state racer Rob Hindery was third, Matthew Horst fourth and Cayla Chapman fifth.
Tyler Sandmeyer made it look easy in Animal Heavy. The Maryland racer gave MGM another win with a comfortable victory of Matthew Darden. Sean Meier was third on the Coyote house kart, Paul Headley had a strong run going but had to settle for fourth. Tim Stiefel bested his son, Joshua, to take the last slot in the top five.
Joshua Stiefel made an engine change Saturday night and found some speed on Sunday. The Western New Yorker bested fellow Coyote racer Cayla Chapman in a close race in win Margay Racing Products Animal Amateur Medium, a class reserved for senior racers who have not won a Gold Cup national championship. Headley took third, Clint Hall fourth and Darden fifth.
Defending class champion Tim Stiefel won Target Dist. Animal Masters by a healthy margin over Robert Hoskinson. Connecticut’s Dave Barry, who says he’s relocating to North Carolina sometime in the next year, took third.
One of the most competitive races of the weekend was Sunday’s Animal Medium. A pair of MGM’s got the best of a pair of Coyotes in the 12-lap main with Linsell and Sandmeyer finishing one-two ahead of Kleman and Meier.

MORE COMPETITIVE SENIOR PRO GAS RACING
Sandmeyer led early before getting loose and letting the trio past him. He made it back by Meier and Kleman and pulled up behind Linsell with a couple laps to go. Sandmeyer made an inside move on Linsell into turn six. The pair went side by side but Linsell was able to fend off the challenge. Sandmeyer had one more shot at Linsell at the end of the straightaway but wasn’t able to muster up enough speed to get past his teammate. Douglas Schmidt rounded out the top five.
Matthew Horst was a mid-pack runner in Animal but he certainly had the Clone figured out. The Razor pilot swept the competitive Senior Clone mains, besting Matt Kessinger and Tyler Sandmeyer both days.
Kessinger and Sandmeyer had enough to hang with Horst in both races but Horst clearly had a bit more than them and the rest of the field, winning Saturday’s main by a half-second margin and taking Sunday’s race by nearly three-tenths of a second gap.
Ageless veteran Dicky Wilson was fourth in Senior Clone 1 on his CKI chassis. CKI’s John Klutz was in attendance all weekend to crew for Wilson. Patrick O’Neal took fifth Saturday on his Coyote.
On Sunday, Matt Travis was fourth behind Horst, Kessinger and Sandmeyer. Local Jax runner Brad Farmer took fifth on his black Coyote.
It was great to see 10 karts start the new Senior Pro Gas main events. Rarely do brand-new classes start more than a handful of karts.
Local racer Michael Greiner got the best of the field in Saturday’s Coyote Motorsports Senior Pro Gas Animal 1. Greiner, on a Margay, and Patrick O’Neal’s Coyote had a terrific battle going in the race before O’Neal ran into mechanical problems with a couple laps to go and retired from the race. Greiner cruised to the win from there. Jeffrey Beatty was second, Chris Osgood third, Meier fourth and Hoskinson fifth.
An up-and-down weekend for Jacksonville resident Sean Meier ended on a high note when he wheeled his Coyote to the win in Coyote / Margay / Razor-sponsored Senior Pro Gas Animal 2. Meier raced hard with Greiner and O’Neal throughout the 12-lapper, pulling ahead on the final circuits to earn his one and only win of the weekend. Greiner was second and O’Neal third.
Joey Kuley made his return to Gold Cup after a couple years of running the WKA Road Racing Series. Kuley rented a Pro Gas Animal from for Sunday’s race and had a good run to take fourth. Beatty rounded out the top five.
Corey Towles won the John Beehan Memorial LO206 Medium local option. Michael Clark was second and Andrew Petty third. The race was named in honor of Beehan, a longtime North Florida Kart Club volunteer who recently passed just a couple weeks ago. WKA’s condolences go out to the Beehan family and all his NFKC friends.
Next up for the Gold Cup is the Michigan Kart Supply Nationals May 24-26 at Michiana Raceway Park near South Bend, Indiana. The official entry form will be released in the next week to 10 days.
Thanks and much appreciation to event sponsor Coyote Motorsports and to all Gold Cup sponsors, racers, families and teams for competing at Jacksonville this past weekend. It was a long drive for many, and your devotion to the series is much appreciated. WKA hopes to see a great field and more strong 4-cycle sprint racing and MRP in May and throughout the rest of the season, which will end with a much-anticipated return to Rockingham Speedway Oct. 4-6.
The event will offer a full slate of flat-kart and champ-kart classes for all age groups, and it will feature an array of special programs, incentives, money races and awards in a major attempt to fill the pits at Chapel Hill and begin rebuilding the Pavement Series.
In addition to the Grand Nationals, WKA and new Chapel Hill owner Ronnie Flaim will promote a Speedway Pavement race the weekend of Saturday, July 13 at Chapel Hill to serve as a warm-up for the Grand Nationals. Details on this event are being worked out and will be announced in the coming weeks.
WKA officials have been working closely with Flaim, a longtime WKA racer who gained ownership of the popular facility from the Scharf and Friel families, which built the facility in the early 1990s and have run it since. Flaim recently purchased the track and is eager to offer big races and regain the following the facility once enjoyed in the ’90s and 2000s.
Another track owner WKA has been working closely with is Rockingham’s Andy Hillenburg. WKA and Hillenburg have reached an agreement to run a Speedway Pavement national event at the “Little Rock,” a Martinsville Speedway replica located behind the 1.5-mile Rockingham tri-oval.
Inside the half-mile Little Rock is a smooth, banked quarter-mile oval that has hosted one kart race several years ago. This track will be the site of a third 2013 WKA Speedway Pavement race after the Chapel Hill Grand Nationals.
The Rockingham date will be announced soon, and similar to the Chapel Grand Nationals, the event will boast a number of special incentives and programs in an effort to promote a big pavement-oval kart race in the Southeast.
WKA is working to rebuild the Pavement program. While the series has been quiet in recent years, WKA is committed pavement oval kart races and believes this form of karting is vital to the health and growth of our sport.
More details on these races are coming soon. Direct Speedway Pavement questions to WKA’s Keith Shampine at 704-455-1606.

Though tall for his age, the young driver only began karting just over a year ago and this year's KartWeek at Daytona International Speedway was his first. Inexperience didn't stop Fairbairn as he went on to dominate the weekend going P1 in every competitive on-track session.
"I first became interested in karting from my dad," said Fairbairn. "He's very into racing and I've been tagging along to his track events for a few years now at Palm Beach International Raceway (PBIR). Every time we would pull up to the track I'd ask, 'Dad, now can I drive the karts?'"
When Fairbairn turned 7 years old, his father, Marcel Fairbairn, set-up a lead-follow session on a Kid Kart with one of the instructors at the track. From that point forward he was instantly hooked and began practicing a few times each week. He's been entering every local race he can and while his home track remains PBIR, he has also spent time at Ocala Speedway, Homestead-Miami Speedway and the RaceComplex in Ft. Myers.
The Manufacturer's Cup series in Daytona Beach is one of the most coveted national races in all of karting and is home to many of the most well-known drivers. This year, more than 2,000 competitors from around the country competed on three tracks.
After skating through qualifiers, Fairbairn, who was competing in his first race in Yamaha Rookie, took first in the pre-final on Saturday. The win earned him a prime spot on the inside front row for the finals. Though losing his position at the start of the race, Fairbairn worked his way back up to take the lead and finished more than eight seconds ahead of the other drivers.
"Winning the final race on Saturday gave me confidence to keep going and push myself even harder during Sunday's events," said Fairbairn.
Turning heads for the second day in a row, the enthusiastic new driver qualified first and took his first career pole. Fairbairn swept the day, leading every lap from the start of the day through to the main event. Finishing once again eight seconds ahead of the competition, Fairbairn earned himself a sweet victory.
"It was a great weekend and I'm so excited to bring home such an important win," said Fairbairn. "I'm looking forward to a repeat performance in Kershaw, S.C. in a couple of months."
Fairbairn drives Tony Kart chassis'. He is racing Micromax (Rotax), Cadet Sportsman (Comer) and Yamaha Rookie. His sponsors include LED Source® and GearSource.com. Go to SouthernKartClub.com for the direct link to the event’s online pre-registration.
Pre-registration is open until Friday, February 1.
Road racers recently closed the 2012 national circuit at Roebling Road September 28-30. WKA and Southern Kart Club officials met following the September event and agreed to work to move the Roebling national date back to February, as it has been in past years, in an effort to increase entries and competition at the 2.02-mile venue.
The event also marks the opening of the 2013 Southern Kart Club regional season. The SKC group will run a club points race in conjunction with WKA at Roebling and April 5-7 at Carolina Motorsports Park. Additional SKC regional races will be held at Roebling Road June 29-30 and Sept. 28-29.
Competitors may mail completed pre-entries to SKC at PO Box 155; Grant, Fla. 32949.
WKA hopes to see a great field of road racers back in action at Roebling Road this winter.
The following is a letter from Southern Kart Club Dominic Greco regarding the 2013 WKA and SKC karting seasons.

Welcome to the 2013 Southern Kart Club (SKC) race season!
First off, I would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year and also to congratulate all of the recent winners at the Daytona season opener. To all of the SKC club members enjoying wins, “WAY TO GO!” As everyone knows from the World Karting Association (WKA) releases, our first club race of the year will be a WKA VEGA / TS RACING ROAD RACING SERIES DRIVEN BY MAZDA national points race. We are excited to once again be a regional stop for the entire series, and look forward to showing the national competitors our special brand of Southern hospitality.
Thom, Nick and I will be working to procure the “free range” pork for the traditional southern BBQ that our club enjoys at our race events. Southern Kart Club will provide the main dish (Pork) and select sides for dinner. We ask all of the club members and guests to bring sides or deserts to add to the pot-luck style gathering Saturday Night following the races. As always, the track allows overnight camping with a small additional fee at the gate. So if you do not feel like leaving the track, you have another option.
The rest of the SKC race schedule will include two additional race dates at Roebling Road and one date, also a national, at Kershaw. These dates will be:
April 5-7 – Carolina Motorsports Park, S.C. (national)
June 29-30- Roebling Road (regional)
September 28-29- Roebling Road (regional)
Due to a scheduling conflict with Barber Raceway, we will not be able to have an additional race this year. Last year, Robby Harper set up an additional race, and we were able to have it approved as a “Plus one” race for our club points. This year, we will revert to the old format of calculating our club member regional points by applying the best three out of four finishes.
SKC Class sponsorship forms are available on the website. Sponsorship includes your club membership along with an early move in and sponsor parking for the season. We thank all of last year’s class sponsors, and hope for additional new sponsors in 2013.
With the increased workload on the volunteers and board members for a national race, our 2012 points Banquet will be held at the June Race. We do not want to short change our loyal club members with a rushed banquet on an already full weekend.
One club item that needs to be addressed over the national weekend will be elections of or retention of SKC board members. In 2012 the SKC membership approved the ability to conduct “electronic” voting for club elections.
Additionally there will be ballots available at registration. Write-in candidates can be added up until the final tally Saturday night. There will be five new board members elected to replace/retain half of the board seats. We will announce the 2013 SKC board members at the BBQ.
The following Board members are up for re-election:
Nick Weil, Mark Scott and Dominic Greco
Members in the middle of the two year term are:
Dave Williams, Jackie Myers, Thom Andresen and Steve Jeffers
Sunday morning during the quiet hour, there will be a meeting of the newly elected SKC board members to begin the club year.
Finally, I would like to personally thank the members of the SKC for making each and every event a “family” style gathering. To our sponsors, thanks for the much needed financial backing in these tough times. To the other board members and volunteers, thanks for all of the hard work you do for the club and racers that visit our track. I would like to extend a special thanks to Dave and Sherrie Williams for their work in scoring and registration, Mark Scott for always helping the disabled karts off the track, and Nick Weil for being our site web master, chef and for his fine event race direction.
Thank you again for another great race season that was 2012, and I look forward to a fun 2013 season.
